Carnelian Bronze Age artifacts using Carnelian found on the Greek island of Crete have been dated as far back as 1800 BCE. Throughout history, including during the Roman Empire, Carnelian has been associated with courage, vitality, & motivation. Known as the 'Stone of Motivation,' Carnelian is believed to inspire action, helping people overcome hesitation & procrastination. With its deep orange color, Carnelian is associated with the 2nd Chakra, or Sacral Chakra, which regulates creativity & sexuality. Carnelian is widely regarded as the birthstone for the zodiac sign of Virgo.

Natural Wood An undeniable part of the history of jewelry, wood was used by ancient civilizations the world over, from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece to Ancient China, in addition to indigenous tribes across many continents. Depending upon the group, different species of wood were thought to offer different benefits, such as protection from negative energy, healing properties, or the ability to increase strength. Cedar was often used for its perceived protective qualities, while sandalwood was valued for its calming & meditative properties. In Ancient Egypt, wooden amulets were worn as protective talismans for both the living & the dead. In Africa, intricate wood carvings made into pendants tell oral traditions, & later on we see how wood was used in Medieval Europe to design rosaries, rings, & pendants, often decorated with religious symbols. It is here we can clearly see that the lightweight, versatile nature of wood created an accessibility for people from all backgrounds & social classes. Perhaps wood is the most inclusive material out of which to fashion jewelry.

Red Jasper Red Jasper was used in Ancient Egypt to protect against evil spirits, so it is not uncommon to discover amulets made of Red Jasper in ancient tombs. Red Jasper was also connected to the sun god, vitality, & the blood of the female god Isis, who was known to heal the sick & protect women & children. Her cult rose to prominence during the Roman period, & the widespread worship of Isis expanded throughout Egypt & beyond, with many temples dedicated to her in locations all over the world. The Medieval Ages saw Red Jasper used as a source of courage, especially in Germanic legends. Red Jasper is associated with the 1st Chakra, or Root Chakra, which is believed to be connected to security & stability. Red Jasper is often associated with Aries due to its empowering & courageous energy, which resonates with Aries' fiery, independent nature. Its grounding & balancing properties help Scorpio, Cancer, Virgo, & Capricorn navigate their intense emotions & summon inner strength, especially during stressful times or emotional turmoil. Red Jasper is a common birthstone for February.
