Black Coral Black corals originated from a single species that lived between the shallows & the deep sea around 600 million years ago, & is said to last up to 25 million years. There are many myths that connect deities with the transformational powers of Black Coral: Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, bestows protection & strength. Hades, ruler of the underworld, offers guidance through life’s darkest hours. Yemaya, the Yoruba goddess of the ocean, generates healing & emotional balance. Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction & rebirth, facilitates transformation. Sedna, the Inuit sea goddess, delivers nourishment & provisions. Black Coral harmonizes with the 1st Chakra, or Root Chakra, which is believed to assist in grounding to Earth’s energy. Supposedly it also connects with the 2nd Chakra, or Sacral Chakra, enhancing creativity & emotional balance. Black Coral is also linked to the the 4th Chakra, or Heart Chakra, which promotes love & compassion, & the 3rd Chakra, or Solar Plexus Chakra, which affects confidence & willpower. Black Coral is also associated with the 7th Chakra, or Crown Chakra, promoting spiritual growth & enlightenment. In the Ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui, the placement of Black Coral in the northern area of a space can create positive energy for dreams & goals, inviting the energy of wisdom & self-discovery. Pluto is thought to rule Black Coral, nurturing empowerment to discard old patterns & embracing authenticity of self. Black Coral is linked to the zodiac sign of Scorpio.
Coconut Shells The coconut tree is often referred to as the “tree of heaven” due to its height & the beautiful environments in which it grows. Coconut palms have been cultivated for more than 3,000 years. The hard outer shell of the coconut is seen as a representation of ego. Breaking the coconut is symbolic of breaking one's ego, & letting go of pride & arrogance.
Red Coral Greek mythology explores the origin of Red Coral in the tale of Perseus. Perseus temporarily placed Medusa's head on a riverbank, where he witnessed her blood turn the seaweed into Red Coral. As a result, the Greek word for coral is 'Gorgeia,' since Medusa was one of the three Gorgons. The Romans hung pieces of coral around the necks of their children to shield them from illness & danger. Worn by a woman, coral was a charm against sterility. Red Coral signifies passion & courage, & it is linked to Mars, the planet believed to rule both the Aries & Scorpio zodiac signs.
